Smoothie is a patented embossing/calendering system for the web, particularly suitable for entry-level edge-embossed products. By a single embossing nip, the ply is embossed on its sides, with or without the use of glue, and calandered in the middle to decorate it and make it smoother. All this is obtained using a single embossing station instead of requiring a pair of rolls or a machine dedicated to the calendering of the entire ply. The final result is a roll that is smooth on most of its surface and aesthetically pleasent thanks to the application of coloured or non-coloured decorations. It can be furtherly processed by other embossing stations without compromising the efficiency of the calandered area. A small revenge for entry-level products that have always privileged price and convenience over aesthetics.
